AISD Settles Suit With Insurance Company

The Amarillo Independent School District board of trustees approved the settlement of its lawsuit against the Travelers Lloyds Insurance Company.

On May 28, 2013, Amarillo experienced a historic hail storm causing $500 million in damage.

Dozens of school roofs were damaged from the storm, causing AISD to turn to its insurance company to cover repairs.

In 2015 the district filed a lawsuit against Travelers Lloyds Insurance Company saying the company wanted to unfairly assess the damage, and other violations of the Texas insurance code.

Years of conflict ended on Thursday as the board of trustees approved a settlement for 42 million dollars.
