AFD Responded To Fire At Abandoned Building Sunday Night

The Amarillo Fire Department was called out to the scene of a structure fire near downtown Sunday night.

Crews arrived at 508 North Taylor Street at 10:40 pm to find heavy smoke coming from the abandoned building.

The fire was brought under control about 11:20 pm and due to the conditions of the building it took 7 crews to put it out.

Damages were estimated at $50,000.

After an investigation took place by the Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office it was likely caused by squatters occupying the building.
