On June 23, 2024, at 4:19 PM, APD officers were sent to the 3400 block of S. Georgia at the Dollar Tree on a shooting. Witnesses on scene told officers that they witnessed a female being thrown from a vehicle. When the witnesses intervened, a man in the vehicle fired rounds at the witness. A witness then returned fire and the male fled the scene in the vehicle. Through investigations, the male was ultimately identified as Kurt David Cobain Gaede, 1/13/1999.

On June 24, 2024, members of the Amarillo Police Department Special Operations Task Force learned that Gaede was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant out of Randall County for Burglary. Task force officers went to the last known address for Gaede which was in the 300 block of S. Georgia. They observed a male they believed to be Gaede approach the front of the residence and knock on the door. The male was denied entry. Task force officers approached the front of the residence and attempted contact with the male. The male did not comply with officers’ commands and fled on foot to the back of a residence. Officers gave chase and Gaede displayed a firearm. This action resulted in a task force officer discharging his firearm striking Gaede. Gaede was transported to a local area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The family of Gaede has been notified.
