945,000 Gallon Wastewater Spill

The Cliffside Lift Station in Amarillo experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater Monday evening.

According to a City of Amarillo notice, 945,000 gallons of untreated wastewater began 7 p.m. Monday but was not observed until 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, and contained by 2:30 p.m.

The cause of the discharge was trash collecting inside the pump and an alarm system failure. The City notes that the alarm issue has been remedied as has the disinfection process.

As per procedure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality was contacted.
