25 Area Great Nurses Honored For Their Hard Work; Six From Amarillo VA

An event was held Tuesday night to honor Panhandle health care workers.

The 2nd Annual Panhandle Great 25 Nurses Recognition Ceremony was held at Polk Street Methodist Church to spotlight 25 of the best-registered nurses in the area.

This prestigious recognition was determined by a Committee which evaluated all the nominations submitted by peers, family members, patients, former teachers, physicians, and administrators.

Six of the nurse work for the Thomas E. Creek V A Health Care System and we spoke with one of the recipients John Blakley.


The five other nurses from the VA included Elizabeth Hammond, Machelle Funtek, Charlene Seale, Dustin Lambert, and Melissa Peavey.

The panel used based established criteria with each nominee’s accomplishments in the following areas: 1) Leadership qualities, 2) Service to the community, 3) Compassionate caregiver and 4) Significant contributions.
