2 Illegal Gambling Business Shut Down

One person is facing federal charges after a criminal complaint says they operated an illegal gambling business in Potter County.

Back in May, Amarillo Police received a tip that an illegal gambling business was operating on East Amarillo Boulevard near North Nelson Street and at a home on 914 West Cherry Avenue.

The tip stated that both locations had several electronic slot machines and patrons were being paid in cash.

A confidential informant was later sent in and confirmed the slot machines, and the patrons were provided refreshments and payed jackpot winnings in U.S Currency.

Subsequently, five people were arrested on warrants related to the illegal gambling business.

The five identified Wesley Van Nguyen as the owner and primary oversight manager of the location on Cherry Avenue.
