Free Tax Filing Available for Low Income Households

Tax season is here, and individuals and families can file this year for free with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. 

Vita is sponsored by the IRS to help families and individuals who earn up to $57,000 take full advantage of tax credits.

Volunteers from the community assist in preparing basic, current year tax returns for eligible taxpayers free of charge, and submit returns electronically. 

To participate, visit a VITA site with all W-2 Forms, a Drivers’ License or photo ID, social security card, or Taxpayer ID for all family members, and a bank account number for electronic refund deposits. 

If they apply, the following should also be brought:

  • Your spouse must be present if filing jointly.
  • Copy of your prior-year tax return.
  • 1099-G unemployment benefits
  • 1099 INT interest from the bank
  • 1099-R pensions, annuities, retirement plans.
