10 digit Dialing

Starting Sunday, October 24, residents in the 806 area code will have to dial ten digits instead of seven to make any phone call.

If you dial seven digits, starting Sunday, you’ll receive a recorded prompt to hang up and redial 10 digits.

The FCC approved the 988 prefix to be the new number to reach the national suicide prevention lifeline.

Mike Peters, the regional 911 network director, says the change will hit older generations the hardest because they’re not going to be able to dial and reach different people the same way.

They’re suggesting you change contacts in your cell phone, so it’ll be obvious when your cell phone numbers don’t go through.

The Public Utility Commission suggests updating their medical and security alert systems to avoid the disruption of service.
