Update On Area Wildfires

Roughneck Fire in Hutchinson County:

The Texas A&M Forest Service is responding to assist with the Roughneck Fire in Hutchinson County. The fire is an estimated 300 acres and 25% contained.

The fire prompted evacuations for the City of Sanford, but those have since been lifted.

Crews staffed the fire overnight to monitor hotspots and keep the perimeter and Xcel is working on restoring power.

Forward progression of the fire has been stopped and no structures or homes have been lost at this time.

Smokehouse Creek Fire in Hutchinson, Roberts and Hemphill Counties:

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service incident map, the Smokehouse Creek Fire in Hutchinson, Roberts, and Hemphill counties is estimated at 1,076,638 acres burned and is 15% contained.

The fire is now considered the largest in Texas history.

Over the weekend, the Texas A&M Forest Service reported flare-ups of the fire west of Canadian.

The northern perimeter of the blaze includes many canyons and continues to be an area of concern, especially with the predicted wind direction.

Windy Deuce Fire in Potter, Moore, and Hutchinson Counties:

The Texas A&M Forest Service says this fire is currently estimated at 144,206 acres burned. The fire is also 55% contained at this time.

Scooper planes, getting water from Lake Meredith, were used on the western side of the fire.

Additional engine crews were assigned and continued to construct and strengthen lines and mop up hot spots.

Dozers will continue to build and strengthen control lines.

Fire personnel will be extremely vigilant along the northern and western perimeters of the fire, due to the predicted southwest wind event.
