League of Women Voter Candidate Forum Talks Money

Money was the main topic in Thursday’s League of Women Voters Candidate forum.  KGNC’s own James Hunt moderated the event and asked those running for Amarillo College’s board and Amarillo Independent school board how they would manage the resources of both. But when it came to the City council race Hunt dug in on a recent mailing by the political action committee Amarillo Matters. Place 1 candidate Elisha Demerson called the mailer falsehoods and Tom Warren in the Place 3 race added that when it comes to this year’s election the voter matters; not money. Mark Nair the incumbent for places 4 said that he found it odd that the group Amarillo Matters would pour so much cash into an election that only pays the winners ten dollars a week in salary.

Deb Buntzen added this on money in this year’s race.

In the Mayoral race, Jim Lowder used the word elitism when talking about opponent Ginger Nelson. Nelson responded by saying in America, hard work to achieve your goals has nothing to do with status.

Buntzen said this about the overall event.

Early voting starts Monday, April 24th.
